The term "external degree" is fairly widely understood - but our 'external' degree process is similarly applied to most programs completed at our constituent and affiliate member colleges, and collaborating institutes. In other words, our 'internal' students usually also achieve their degree on an aggregate-learning basis, just like external candidates. Besides completing a particular program of studies with us, they may also have received credit for a wide range of learning accomplished elsewhere, including by correspondence or on-line. Degree designations include Applied Science, Arts, Business, Education, General Studies, Languages, and Technology. See Main Table of Contents.
We helped pioneer the degree designation of 'General Studies' for people who have completed various programs, often discontinuously in time, and needing a context in which to aggregate them for an appropriate degree. In our oral interview/dissertation stage of the degree process, we encourage candidates to explore ways of relating one or more such learning outcomes to another, if they have not already done so. Our pioneering of the General Studies degree has commended itself to other universities, including Canada's Simon Fraser University - which commenced 2000 a classroom-based Bachelor of General Studies.
NEED THE DEGREE - BUT NOT REALLY MORE STUDIES?
You may have done past courses and other learning which equals
an associate or bachelor or master degree - but you accumulated
that learning in a variety of contexts, with no resulting degree
outcome. Meeting your need, Vancouver University's enhanced
prior learning assessment process may conclude with a degree in
General Studies, or some other appropriate degree designation.
Your transcript then credibly documents all of your learning.
NEED MORE STUDIES - FOR OUR DEGREE?
Take them at other institutions, or online. Or with us, globally.
In Vancouver, degree completion cohorts (groups) in Arts, Applied science (IT),
Business, ECE Education, and Recreation studies, are structured for Summer or Septembe or January commencements - at the associate,
bachelor and master levels.
ABOUT VANCOUVER UNIVERSITY

in the quality assurance and other academic organizations listed
here.
